About

My name is Sabrina Abdulla and I am a PhD candidate in Microbiology at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. My research focuses on understanding how small non-coding RNAs regulate steps of Salmonella infection.  Outside of lab, I am passionate about science communication and outreach, specifically adult-focused outreach. My goal is to expand the accessibility of research to non-scientists and help make the field less intimidating to everyone, regardless of scientific expertise. Often times, telling someone that you are a scientist meets you with a response along the lines of "I'm not smart enough to understand anything about that". I would like to challenge this notion in my work and replace it with the idea that well communicated science can be accessible to anyone. I hope to explore career options within the fields of library science or science communication.  (Avatar by @alchemysciviz)
