Sabrina Abdulla
Science Outreach & Partnerships Coordinator
I received my PhD in Microbiology at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign from the Vanderpool lab. My research focused on understanding how small non-coding RNAs regulate steps of Salmonella infection.
Outside of work, I am passionate about science communication and outreach, specifically focusing on scientific learning for all ages and backgrounds. My goal is to expand the accessibility of research to non-scientists and help make the field less intimidating to everyone, regardless of scientific expertise.
Often times, telling someone that you are a scientist meets you with a response along the lines of "I'm not smart enough to understand anything about that". I would like to challenge this notion in my work and replace it with the idea that well communicated science can be accessible to anyone. (Avatar by @alchemysciviz)
